
History of Soulard
Soulard is the oldest residential district in the city of St. Louis, and began growing in the 1840's. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and a City of St. Louis Historic District. Named for Antoine Soulard, whose widow, Julia Cerre Soulard, gave 2 city blocks for use as a public market. Soulard Market stands there today.
