History of Soulard

Soulard is the oldest residential district in the city of St. Louis, and began growing in the 1840's. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and a City of St. Louis Historic District. Named for Antoine Soulard, whose widow, Julia Cerre Soulard, gave 2 city blocks for use as a public market. Soulard Market stands there today.

Historic Photos of 1896 Cyclone

One of the worst disasters to hit the USA came right through this neighborhood over 100 years ago. A devastating tornado began in the Tower Grove neighborhood, traveled east and left Lafayette and Soulard in ruins. See photos of Broadway and Soulard, and more HERE...

Buffalo Bill Came to Dinner

Buffalo Bill Cody walked these streets and came to dinner one Sunday...and married the daughter of the folks who lived here. It's anecdotes like these that make walking down this street so special.
