History of Soulard

Soulard is the oldest residential district in the city of St. Louis, and began growing in the 1840's. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and a City of St. Louis Historic District. Named for Antoine Soulard, whose widow, Julia Cerre Soulard, gave 2 city blocks for use as a public market. Soulard Market stands there today.

National Night Out Block Party Last Night

The block party on 8th & Geyer had some of the nicest folks serving up great food from neighborhood restaurants - chicken wings, pulled pork, salads, red beans & rice, you name it. We got to sample free dishes, kids and dogs played in the water to cool off, and neighbors sat outside in their lawn chairs.

Twilight Cinema Soulard Market Park

About 100 neighbors and I watched "Zombieland" on an inflatable screen at Soulard Market Park last Thursday night. People brought all kinds of food, drinks, and being Soulard...their dogs. The weather cooperated and gave us some relief from the heat that evening - really relaxing.
Bill Murray's cameo was a hoot!

Historic Photos of 1896 Cyclone

One of the worst disasters to hit the USA came right through this neighborhood over 100 years ago. A devastating tornado began in the Tower Grove neighborhood, traveled east and left Lafayette and Soulard in ruins. See photos of Broadway and Soulard, and more HERE...

Buffalo Bill Came to Dinner

Buffalo Bill Cody walked these streets and came to dinner one Sunday...and married the daughter of the folks who lived here. It's anecdotes like these that make walking down this street so special.

Just a short walk, and you will see stately lion statues all over the neighborhood.

Seen in front of homes and businesses, these steps were used to step up into carriages. As you can see from some of the photos, some steps have the family name carved into them.

World famous clydesdales are the ambassadors of AB, and their original stables are a must see on the brewery tour. Tourists love these magnificent horses and their dalmation pal too.
